Rising Star 2016: Emily McCready

Volunteer activities: Board member for Dubuque Community YMCA/YWCA, Matter, Mercy Health Foundation, Rotary Club of Dubuque, volunteer for Women’s Leadership Network, Dubuque Museum of Art, Bridge Christian Community Church, Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce, Dubuque Jaycees and T-ball coach.
Education: Bachelor of arts in business administration, emphasis in marketing, National University in San Diego.
Family: Husband, Andrew; daughter, Johanna, 4.
Person most inspirational to me and why: Janet Selser, co-founder of our firm, Selser Schaefer Architects, has been my most influential mentor. She is innovative, intelligent, easy to talk to and tireless. Her passion and focus are unmatched and I learn from her constantly.
Favorite thing to do outside of work: Be a wife and mother, volunteer, garden, plan our historic house renovation, gather at Pepper Sprout with good friends and family, and spend time with my church family.
One word to describe me: Determined.
What’s one thing that most people would be surprised to know about you: We are working toward renovating our historic home downtown with the dedicated purpose of filling it with more children, exchange students and to gather people as often as possible.
Greatest fear: That I will someday become complacent and stop trying to make the world a better place.
What’s the one thing you are most passionate about in your life: I strive to bring people together to solve problems, fill needs and bring dreams to reality.
